IHE Europe

IHE is a worldwide initiative by healthcare professionals and industry to improve the way computer systems in healthcare share information. IHE promotes the coordinates use of established standards such as DICOM and HL7 to address specific clinical need in support of optimal patient care. Systems developed in accordance with IHE communicate with one another better, are easier to implement, and enable care providers to use information more effectively.

IHE Europe is an active member of IHE International. IHE Europe coordinates deployment of IHE activities in Europe, federating national IHEs (Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, UK…). Over the years, IHE developed a strong expertise in the field of interoperability testing (more than 25 connectathon organised in the past 10 years in the world). IHE works with Certification bodies in different part of the world (CCHIT in the USA, Infoway in Canada…).

By testing every year new integration profiles including clinical contents, medical vocabularies in the European Connectathon (in 2009 at Vienna), IHE-Europe participates actively to the development of the quality of interoperability between products of various companies working in Europe but also qualifies the use of the standards in such profiles. The results of the Connectathon based on more than hundred companies give a clear feedback of the quality of the standards and the maturity of the integration. http://www.ihe-europe.net/
